Beach Extensions

Finish your trip to Kenya in style with a relaxing few days along the glorious Kenyan coast.

  • Lamu Island

This UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of the original settlements in Kenya, dating back to 1370. It is a site steeped in culture and history. It is known for offering comfortable accommodation.

  • Malindi

Travelling south from Lamu, we next arrive at Malindi. The area is also steeped in Swahili culture and offers a number of popular resorts. Malindi is 120 kilometres north of Mombasa and transfers can be provided by road from Mombasa or travellers may fly into the Malindi Airport. There are a number of popular resorts in the Malindi area.

  • Watamu

Just a few kilometres south of Malindi is Watamu. Here the exceptional beaches are protected by offshore coral providing an opportunity for swimming, snorkelling, SCUBA diving and deep-sea fishing. There are a range of resorts in Watamu including the five-star Hemingways Watamu Resort.

  • Kilifi

The next spot we arrive at on our journey south is Kilifi. Not widely known, Kilifi is 53 kilometres north of Mombasa and offers pristine beaches and a small selection of resorts.

  • Mombasa (North Coast)

The coastline North of Mombasa is a world of enthralling history and natural beauty. The coast is lined with pristine palm fringed beaches, and the calm inviting waters of the Indian Ocean. The beaches are broken by the wide mouth of Kilifi Creek, whose azure waters are a popular port of call on the international yachting circuit.

The beaches of Nyali, Vipingo, Kikambala and Shanzu are home to a wide range of World Class resorts with fine cuisine and services. The peaceful beach havens of Mtwapa and Takaungu offer an ideal escape from the outside world, with endless deserted beaches.

The offshore reefs are alive with coral, myriad fish, sea turtles and dolphins. Both outer and inner reef walls offer world class diving with spectacular coral gardens and drop offs, and Kenya’s best wreck diving on the MV Dania.

The gateway to the North Coast is Mombasa, although some visitors fly directly to Malindi.

  • Mombasa (South Coast)

The beaches on the coast south of Mombasa include Diani and Galu. Here, the beaches and lodges tend to be more rustic in nature and offer a more relaxing and peaceful experience than the north coast.

There are plenty of water based activities on offer though and visitors can reach this area with direct flights into Diani Regional Airport.

Southern Bypass to Diani is finally open. The construction of the southern bypass to Diani and Kenya’s South Coast is now officially open for light vehicles, which include tour vehicles, minibuses, and coaches. This project is part of Kenya’s Vision 2030. The project consists of two bridges, of which one is the longest in the Africa continent, measuring 1.45 km across the Indian Ocean. The new bypass connects both Mombasa SGR train station and Moi International Airport. This means we will no longer be using the ferry to reach Diani and Galu. The long wait has finally come to an end. The good news is that from any of the Diani resorts, it will now take approximately one hour to get to the airport (excluding any multi-stops at resorts), the journey will be faster than it has ever been. The new route goes through virgin farmland with beautiful scenery. As a leading DMC, we have been lobbying to have this new route officially opened for the convenience of our mutual guests travelling to Diani. The bypass is also a huge welcome for safari guests to both Tsavo East/Tsavo West, Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary and Amboseli on the slopes of Mt. Kilimanjaro. This bypass allows for a more seamless and efficient journey reducing time to reach the Southeastern Parks of Kenya. The bypass will also provide a more efficient journey for those guests wishing to take Mombasa city tours and other excursions in the north coast of Mombasa. ... See MoreSee Less
